California Wildfires

Last month, California was hit by wildfires. These fires were the most destructive and deadly in California’s history.  The fires burned 1,890,438 acres of land. It consisted of 8,434 fires. The fires caused more than 3.5 billion dollars in damage and left many homeless. 97 civilians and 6 firefighters were killed. At least 80 were injured.  More than 18,000 houses and buildings were destroyed.

Celebrities such as the Kardashians, Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Miley Cyrus, and more, had their multi million dollar houses completely burned down or at least partially ruined by the fires. Miley Cyrus plans to donate $500,000 to the Malibu Foundation to help other victims of the fire. The fire started November 8 and by November 25 it was 100% contained

FEMA has given $4.95 million to help victims find housing. More than 13,000 victims applied to FEMA for assistance with housing, after their homes were destroyed. These people are left without homes, sleeping in tents or on the side of the road. While thousands are left homeless, there are still 563 people missing.
