Many people have split opinions over the sport of football. Whether you're a die hard fan of a certain team or not particularly interested, it is a fact that football has a big part in American history. In this year’s Super Bowl, the Patriots pulled a surprising win over the Falcons in overtime. If you were happy with the outcome of the game or not, there's one thing that most people can agree on; the commercials play a large part in the Super Bowl tradition.
This year, the commercials covered a wide array of topics and appealed to different emotions. Audi’s “#DriveProgress” commercial covered the topic of equal pay among men and women. It shows a father and his talented young daughter. Her father knows that at the moment, his daughter would not have equal pay, and is hoping, that, in the future, she will be able to make as much money as men.
The Skittle’s “Romance” commercial put a twist on the traditional act of tossing pebbles onto a window to get a girl’s attention. In this commercial’s case, skittles replaced rocks, and the girl in the house was more than prepared. Along with her family and even a burglar and a policeman, all were ready to catch the skittles in their mouths as they were thrown.
Coca Cola’s commercial, “America is Beautiful,” brought a strong message to this year's game. Originally created for the 2014 Sochi Olympics, this commercial shows the diversity in the country by putting together a compilation of people singing “America the Beautiful” in different languages. After recent political happenings, Coca Cola decided to bring this commercial back. This decision caused much controversy on many social media websites, but reintroduced the topic of diversity in America nonetheless.
Through the good and the bad of any Super Bowl, the commercials don't fail to bring a smile to the faces of many. Super Bowl 51 had many great commercials; some bring great messages, and others are just for fun. These three commercials of 2017 played a large part in the Super Bowl, and deserved recognition as some of the top commercial picks for this year.
