This past fall, Massabesic’s NJROTC Drill Team finished up their season with flying colors. Despite the rocky start, the team worked hard and was rewarded by placing third in New England. Special Teams Coordinator Zoé Petit (junior), when asked about her reaction to the announcement that Massabesic came in third in the league, said, “I was just in shock. I was so happy for the whole team because we worked so hard, even after the meets when we didn’t win anything.” She also spoke of how the hard work that was put in was a pleasant surprise. The team only placed in a couple of events throughout the season before the last meet which took place at Massabesic. While the cadets certainly could have given up and lost hope in the team, they kept working hard until the end.
Sarah Doyle (junior), a cadet on the drill team, also answered a few questions on how she thought the season went. She said, “the team got progressively better… [which] paid off because we got third place overall in the league. That hasn't been done at Massabesic for about 6 years.” She wished that there could have been a bit more hard effort given, but overall, she was very happy with how the season went.
As a whole, the team was very happy with how the season went. Many of the upperclassmen that had been on the team for multiple years hope that next year, even more NS1’s (first year cadets) will join and all of the experienced members who still attend will return for another great season. Another hope that seemed consistent among cadets was the hope that more Massabesic High School students, staff, and even other locals attend the meet that Massabesic hosts to support the team. Hopefully the extra support could lead to an even better season for the Massabesic Drill Team in the future.
